Hello! It’s been a bit quiet on the Tiger Mendoza front for a while so I thought I’d put out a quick update.
Remixes:
The Missing on the Motorway mix I put together for the DJ Shadow remix comp has been selected to be a bonus track on the download version of the compilation that’s coming out to accompany the competition. Shame it didn’t get on the actual CD but still cool to be associated.
Oscar TG asked me if I wanted to do a remix of his track ‘Run with the flame’ which will be coming out on Red Robot records soon. A big thank you to Oscar, Will Scarlett and Flipt for letting me mess with their song!
There are a couple of other things that I’m working on as well but their not 100% confirmed yet but hopefully more news soon….
New tunes:
We are writing new stuff at the moment and hope to have some sort of release out probably in September. Dan O’Driscoll will be joining on guitar (along with Helena on vocals and Sally on bass) so that’s nice. Will definitely help when we do live gigs as well (which we’re also going to try and do later this year).
Anyway, that’s it for now. Cheers to anyone that’s shown an interest in this little project in any way. There will be some new tunes for you to listen to soon hopefully but due to some ‘personal commitments’, the tunes have had to be put on hold for a bit. Here’s small bootleg to tide you over in the mean time.
The last time Dangermouse and Sparklehorse got together was on the brilliant ‘Dreamt for lightyears in the belly of a Mountain’ which has become one of my favourite albums. When the mysterious posters started appearing I got excited. So to hear that this brilliant album may never be officially released due to issues with the record label is just rubbish. Therefore I feel you all need to hear the album (by visiting here or maybe even here) and buy the book / cd-r package. Trust me you do want to.
5 years ago, Elliott Smith died. His death is probably the only ‘celebrity’ death where I can say I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when I found out (putting out CDs in hight street ‘music retailer’). For better or for worse, he was is one of my favourite song writers and his music has meant a lot to me over the years. Here’s a short articlefrom the LAist on his life from SPIN.com on the circumstances leading up to his death. Cheers for the music Elliott.
For what it’s worth I BOUGHT this album and love it!
Edit: The flash player thing that was here for that was in this post for Saul Williams’ ‘Niggy Tardust’ has been taken down. Still worth getting though!
I was talking to someone last night and and we got on to the subject of whether or not the Foo’s had lost it. Now, I’m a pretty big Foo Fighters fan, but I was being told that after ‘The Color And The Shape’ they kind of lost it. My friend then went on to say that Prince’s Suberbowl 2007 cover of Best Of You was better than the original.
So I’m mulling this over (with my chipped tooth after hitting myself in the face with a mic and at a gig last night) and I still have to say ……No. The Foo’s are still great. And maybe I do like the MOR acoustic stuff too much but hey, such is life. So here – Dave’s acoustic version of ‘Times Like These’ from One By One:
I know TV ads are a strange thing to post but I thought the combination of the game FMV and the Gary Jules version of Mad World (from Donnie Darko) in this Xbox 360 trailer was genius. Fair play to them for trying something a bit jarring and different I say!
Edit 26/10/08: Finally got round to playing (and completing) the game. Can’t wait for the sequel!
NB: From time to time I may post mp3s and stuff by other artists that I really admire and would like to raise awareness of in my own small way. If you are the copyright holder of the file and would like it taken down, please contact me and I will do so as soon as I can. Happy listening.
