  • New stuff

Cheers to everyone that saw me do the acoustic gig in slough last week. It was fun. Don’t know if I really fitted in to a punk night but never mind it seemed to go down well.

Apart from that I’ve been working on a couple of songs that will be on the first Tiger Mendoza download release which will probably be called TMCD1 (imaginative? No, but never mind eh?) and will be ready for the end of Jan 2009. Won’t that be great? Here are a couple of tracks for you to listen to:

‘Tokyo Triangle’ features the lovely Helena Markou on vocals. We’ll be working on some other new songs together as well but they’re not ready yet.

  • Hang Drum remixed [Update]

There’s a video that’s been around on video sites like youtube that’s been around for a while now which I’ve been slightly obsessed with ever since the first time I saw it. Manu Delago posted a video of a solo piece he did on an instrument called a Hang which I’d seen before but never heard played properly. I just LOVED the sound the things were making. When I heard it I really wanted to do something with it. Not too much but just……enhance it maybe? Re-edit it? I dunno. But I found out I could do video editing in good old ableton so I thought I’d give it a go. Here’s the result:

Here’s an mp3 of the audio: Manu Delago – Hand Drum Solo (Mono Desire) [TM Remix]
Here’s a downloadable version of the audio:

A big Thank you to Manu for posting the original video (which you can see here) and for letting me post the remix.

  • Minimix

I’ve been listening to Annie Mac’s Mashup radio show for a little while now and generally the bit I’m waiting for is the minimix – 5mins where a DJ, producer or band make a musical collage of stuff that has influenced them or that they’re listening to at the moment. Here’s my go:

    Tiger Mendoza – Minimix (v2)
    Tracklisting:
Prodigy – No good (start the dance)
Primal Scream – Movin’ on up
    Lion – Transformers theme
    Pendulum – Propane nightmares
QOTSA – No-one knows (UNKLE remix)
    Burial – Archangel
    DJ Shadow – High noon
The Chemical Brothers – Setting Sun (Live version)
The Beatles – Tomorrow never knows
    The Evenings – I Didn’t remember
Iggy Pop – Lust for life
    NiN – Perfect Drug (Acapella)
    Foo Fighters – Everlong
    RHCP – Under the bridge
Kings of convenience – I don’t know what… (Mojib remix)
The Herbaliser – On your knees
Orbital & Kirk Hammett – Satan
Squarepusher – My Red hot car
    David Holmes – Radio 7
Union of Knives – Opposite direction
    The Knack – My Sharona

(update 02/11: Sorry, couldn’t resist making a couple of minor tweaks!)

  • “Hiiiiiiiiiggghhhh…as a kite…”

I don’t really know why, but I love this:

And a great Family Guy mini version.

  • Ghostly Swim

I realise this is probably pretty old to some people now but a little while back the brilliant [adultswim] posted a free compilation of stuff from the Ghostly International record label, and it’s a really quite brilliant little compilation. And Free! Here’s the player Sorry, the player auto-playing whenever you go to the site annoid me. Here’s the first track instead:

    Michna – Triple chrome dipped

The whole lot can be downloaded from here.

  • “Said I’ve seen your picture on a $100 bill…”

5 years ago, Elliott Smith died. His death is probably the only ‘celebrity’ death where I can say I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when I found out (putting out CDs in hight street ‘music retailer’). For better or for worse, he was is one of my favourite song writers and his music has meant a lot to me over the years. Here’s a short article from the LAist on his life from SPIN.com on the circumstances leading up to his death.
    Cheers for the music Elliott.
