  • Red Cross Japanese Tsunami Appeal

I’m sure by now you’ve all seen the images in the media that have come back in the wake of the earthquake and Tsunami that hit Japan. It seems as though things are going pretty crazy around the world with the troubles in Egypt and Libya and the earthquake in New Zealand but this has hit a little closer to home. Helena lived in Japan for a while and her experiences in the country influenced the lyrics to our songs ‘Tokyo Triangle’ and ‘Last Train To Chiba’ and it’s a place that is still very close her. We also have other friends with very strong links to Japan so I thought I would put a message out.

I appreciate that money wise, things are a tough at the moment and there are a number of high profile charities trying to get your money for different causes but if you can spare anything and would like to donate to the Red Cross’ Appeal, click on this link or on the image below.

    Cheers, Ian

  • ACOUSTIC GIG THIS SATURDAY!!!!!

    Hello!

A belated Happy New Year to you all! Just a some good and bad news for you. The gig we had lined up for March has unfortunately been postponed however hopefully it’ll be rescheduled for soon after.

The good news is that I’m playing a solo acoustic set THIS SATURDAY (29th) at Oxford Cycle Workshop. Go here for the Facebook event and more details.

  • Pre-Christmas Thank Yous and Stems!

The past year has been pretty crazy for Tiger Mendoza. We’ve managed to play gigs, record an album and recruited 2 new members. I’d say that was a big win of a year. The gigs we had over the past couple of weeks were a really good experience. It’s fair to say that the 2nd gig was a lot tighter (and to be fair a lot more fun) but a big THANK YOU to Daisy Rogers and Swiss Concrete and Gappy for having us. And obviously THANK YOU to all of the people that came to see us. Dan Paxton has some great pics from the gigs up on Flickr profile.

In a return of good will and good Christmas spirit I’ve uploaded some remixable stems to the Aim For The Head page which you remix to your hearts content. If you do create anything please do share it via Soundcloud or Official.FM.

As for what next year will hold, Tiger Mendoza will continue and there will be more music but the lineup will have change as Helena and Sally are going off to do other things for a bit. We have got a show lined up for March in Oxford but full details are still TBC for that. But trust me it will be great. Oh Yes.

  • An update

The blog posts have been relatively quiet (although the twitter posts haven’t) but that’s because there’s been a lot of stuff happening in the background so here’s a bit of a summary.

    New Music:
We are working on a new 11 track album called ‘Aim For The Head’. The backing tracks are almost completed and we’ll be doing the vocals over the next couple of weeks. There’s also the possibility of putting out a little ep type thing with some semi acoustic stuff and a new song (which Dan came up with the music for) which doesn’t quite fit on the album. We’re hoping to complete it all in time for some gigs we’ve lined up which leads me nicely on to…

    Gigs:
We’re very excited to say we’ve got the following gigs lined up:
10th December – The Jericho, Oxford
17th December – The Wheatsheaf, Oxford

This will be the first time that all 4 of us have played live together in front of people (and may well be the last time we get to play together for a while) so we’re really looking forward to it. Full lineups and ticket prices for both nights are still tbc but we’ll let you know more as soon as we do. We’re still keeping an eye out for other gigs though so get in contact if you would like us to come to a venue near you.

    Site updates:
I’ve been tweaking and rearranging stuff on the site for a little while so hopefully things should be a bit easier to find and bit to manage from this end. In particular, have a look at the new look gigs and music pages and the brand new about and video pages and let me know what you think via comment, contact or twitter.

    Other:
The brilliant Lee from Prohibition Smokers’ Club has let me loose on a remix of one of their new tracks which should be out fairly soon. There may well be a couple of other things coming up as well but their not quite ready to tell you about yet. Should be able to soon though.

So as you can see quite a a lot has been happening which has been keeping us busy but definitely in a good way. We’re really looking forward to putting the new stuff out for people to listen to and to playing live so exciting times ahead. In the mean time, have a listen to this.
